A man has this evening been arrested on suspicion of a terrorism offence.

Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command, assisted by the Met Police Firearms Command carried out a pre-planned operation which resulted in a 20-year-old man from north west London being arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

He was detained by officers from the Firearms Command, no one was injured

He was arrested in the north west London area at approximately 6.30pm He is being held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and is in custody at a south London police station.
