Murder Investigation after Woman found in fire at House in Romford

An investigation is underway following the death of a woman in Romford.

Police were called at approximately 6.45am on Thursday, 2 August to reports of a disturbance at a residential address on Valentines Way.

A short time later, officers were informed of a fire at the same address.

London Fire Brigade attended and dealt with the fire.

A woman’s body was found inside the address.

The woman, believed to be aged in her early 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

The death is being treated as unexplained while the outcome of the post-mortem awaits.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.

The victim and the man arrested were known to each other.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.
