The Isle of Wight’s £3.2 million Cowes “floating bridge” has run aground this lunchtime we can reveal.
Passengers and vehicles users were ordered off by the staff just after 1.30pm on Wednesday afternoon. Vehicles trapped on the bridge have been made to reserve off up the slipway
The problem Bridge has been nicknamed Floaty McFloatface by locals
All passengers have now been disembarked and Council staff are in the process of helping drivers to reverse back up the steep slipway.

It is currently unknown when the service will resume, which of course will have a knock-on effect for visitors to Cowes Week.

A long queue has formed for the replacement launch that is going to be layed on.

A spokesman for the Isle of Wight Council said: We are waiting for high water to release the bridge from the slipway and expect this to be between 5 and 6pm. A passenger launch is operating in the meantime
