A multi-agency search in very dark, difficult conditions involving the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service, Two coastguards search and rescue teams from Ventnor and The Needles, The Coastguard rescue helicopter 175 from Lee on the Solent, The Isle of Wight ambulance service and officers from Hampshire Constabulary in the early hours of Friday morning proved to be a false alarm.


Emergency crews were mobilised to the cycle track between Afton Road and Freshwater Causeway just after 11pm on Thursday night after a member of the public called Police advising that they had seen someone stumbling around in the mud. Fire crews from Freshwater used a thermal imaging camera to assist with the ground search along the cycle track. Whilst The coastguard rescue helicopter used the FLAIR and Nightsun to assist with the fruitless from the air. Despite all the efforts of those involved nothing was found. Emergency crews were stood down just after 1.25 on Friday morning,
