A former drug addict who escaped with his life after stealing his ex-partners car and ploughing it into a wall has also escaped a prison sentence after a judge took pity on him.
Richard Barron,33 from the Isle of Wight has been banned from driving for 18 months but has escaped prison after driving the wrong way down Lind Street in Ryde and smashing into an oncoming vehicle and a wall.
Emergency services had to cut free Barron in the early hours back in August 2018 after the white Ford Fiesta hit an oncoming vehicle at speed and then ploughed into a wall.
Barron appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown court claiming he had been suffering mental health problems at the time fo the incident.
The incident took place in August last year when Barron, drove down Lind Street against the flow of traffic, around a bend and ploughed into an oncoming Ford Transit Connect.
Barron, who’d stolen Ford Fiesta from a former girlfriend without her permission had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire crews following the collision.[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/bgqRgMQeIU4″ autoplay=”yes”]
Having admitted to a string of charges the judge took pity Barron sentencing him to an 18-month community order and fined him £1,000. He was further disqualified from driving for a period of 18 months.[the_ad id=’73169′]
