police tell owner of stolen car to go and look for it yourself

An appeal has been issued after a smart car was stolen in Ryde on the Isle of Wight overnight.

The red and black smart car was stolen from John Street in Ryde in the early hours of Monday.
The registration is LG54 VTT.

The car was parked in John Street over weekend.

Owner Steve Matthews has said he checked that it was there on Saturday and Sunday.

When he and his partner returned the vehicle had gone this morning.(Monday)

Gutted Steve has contacted Hampshire Constabulary who advised him to go out and look for CCTV himself.

Basically go out and investigate your own theft. It’s madness he said to be told to go out and look yourself.

The police also said that they would only spend a maximum of two hours studying CCTV.

The car was only purchased from the mainland last week and the car was stolen with a recovery truck you could see the marks left on the ground.

I have checked with all the ferry companies who record all the registrations leaving the island they have said they haven’t seen it.

I’ve been left £1,000 out of pocket and have been told to go and find it myself and then come back and let the police know.

Anyone with information who can assist or has seen the car is asked to contact Hampshire’s Constablary on 101.
