A man seen carrying a knife in Ryde has been tasered by armed Police and safely arrested.
Armed Police officers from the Joint Armed Roads Policing unit were alerted to the incident shortly before 9pm.
A concerned member of the public contact Police after spotting the man in the street with a carving knife.
Officers thinking outside the box set off the fire alarm in an attempt to flush out the knife carrying man.
Police were not aware that the alarm was linked to a monitoring company who passed the call to the fire service.
Officers attended and carried out an area search and located the man to a building on Melville Street in the town.
Police than approached and tasered the man who was in of the knife
The man was checked over by Paramedics who removed the barbs from the man’s body.
A further arrested was also made within a property and is understood to be a female.
Both remain in custody at Newport Police station
