Bembridge RNLI and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 have been involved in a medical evacuation in the middle of the English Channel this evening .
The incident involved the cruise ship Ventura off the coast of the Isle of Wight tonight (Sunday).
The Bembridge RNLI’s Tamar-class All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) was launched just before 8pm along with the Lee on Solent based rescue helicopter Rescue 175.
The rescuers helped to evacuate a serious I’ll passenger on board the cruise liner hi was a crew member who’ suffers a heart attack.
Ventura left Southampton this evening bound for Vigo, Spain.
The Rescue helicopter is understood to have winches a paramedic onboard Venture. The sick passenger was stabilised and packed for an air evacuation. The crew member has been flown to Southampton General Hospital.
Both the lifeboat and helicopter is now standing down from the incident and returning.
The cruise liner Ventura is continuing its passage to Spain.
