Third boy arrested over Southampton Arson attack

Officers from Hampshire Constablary continue to investigate the cause of a fire at a building in St Mary’s Street on Tuesday 26 March.

Yesterday, two boys, aged 11 and 13-years-old were arrested on suspicion of arson. A third boy, aged 12, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

All three boys have been questioned by officers and released from police custody but remain under investigation.

The fire was reported at 2pm on March 26 at a vacant commercial property under construction in St Mary Street and we attended with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Due to the severity of the fire nearby homes and businesses were evacuated as a precaution. No one was reported injured.

Officers previously released an image of three people seen on the roof of the building prior to the fire starting. These people have since been identified and have been eliminated from the investigation.

As the investigation into the fire continues, so does our appeal for witnesses.
