Detectives in Haringey investigating a series of sexual assaults have released mobile phone footage of a man they urgently need to trace.
On Wednesday, 3 April at around 7.50pm on Tottenham Green East, N15. A 25-year-old woman was walking close to Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness towards Philip Lane near Green Park.
The victim was approached by an unknown male who attempted to speak to her; however she could not hear what he was saying as she was wearing headphones.
The suspect then kicked her before swearing and gesticulating at her. He then fled in the direction of the fitness centre.
The incident was captured on CCTV.
The second incident occurred at around 10.15am the following day (Thursday, 4 April). The 27-year-old woman was walking along Philip Lane, N15 when an unknown male suspect approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her. He then punched her in the face before running off towards Tottenham High Road.
On Thursday, 4 April at approximately 10.20am, a 20-year-old woman was walking along Philip Lane, N15 before turning left into Clyde Road behind Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness. She then noticed a male running behind her.
Although she thought this was unusual she believed he was running for cover as it was raining. Moments later the male approached her from behind and sexually assaulted before swearing at her.
She did not say anything. The suspect then punched the woman around five times, striking her upper body and face. The victim managed to run away but dropped her umbrella as the suspect ran after her.
The incident was witnessed by a passing motorist who intervened before the suspect could harm the victim again. He chased the suspect, filming him using his mobile phone as he fled before the suspect escaped along Clyde Road.
As a result of this incident, the victim was very traumatised and sustained swelling and pain to her eye. She attended hospital for treatment before being discharged.
In all offences, the suspect is described as a black male of slim to medium build.
Detective Inspector Paul Ridley from North Area CID is leading the investigation into all three assaults and believes they are linked. He said:
“All the offences are clearly sexually motivated and the random nature, additional violence and aggressive behaviour by the assailant towards these young women is concerning.
“The incidents have occurred within very close proximity, two in the same street within minutes of each other. The women were understandably left extremely distraught.
“The mobile phone footage captures the male wearing a distinctive red baseball hat, blue jeans, white trainers with a black leather rucksack on his back. He is also carrying at least one sports racquet and a protective cover made by the company ‘Pro Baseline’ which appears to be for a tennis racquet. If you put all these clues together and believe you know this man, I need you to come forward as a priority.
“There is always a possibility that the suspect may have followed other women in the area, perhaps making only minimal or even no contact. I would, therefore, urge anyone who may have been assaulted but has not reported it, or who has seen a male matching the description of the attacker to approach the investigation team. You may hold vital information.
“If you are in the area please remain vigilant and if you have any concerns then do not hesitate to contact police immediately. I can reassure residents that officers in uniform and plain clothes are fully investigating these incidents and are conducting patrols.”
