Officers found the victim, in his 20s, in Cranbrook Road. A relative at the scene said that a police officer was yards from the stabbing when it happened this afternoon.
The condition of the man is not yet known, and no arrests have been made.
An air ambulance was also seen at the scene and the victim was taken to a major trauma centre.

Met Police said in a statement: “Police were called at around 3.29pm on Friday, April 5 to reports of a stabbing on Cranbrook Road, Ilford.
“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and found a man, believed to be in his 20s, suffering stab wounds.
“We await an update on his condition. No arrests have been made.”

London Ambulance Service said in a statement: “We were called at 3:30pm today to Cranbrook Road, Ilford to reports of an incident.
“We sent an incident response officer and an ambulance crew to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.”
