A masked armed man has entered the Ryde Co-Operative on the Isle of Wight and made off with takings from the store.

The armed robber entered the store on Somerset Road in Elmfield, Ryde just before 10.20 last night.
The violent masked robber volted the counter and hit one of the staff members as terrified customers looked on. Before making off with takings and other goods from the store pursued by a brave customer who witnessed the drama unfolding.

Police have seized CCTV from the store and are currently examining it for clues to the identity of the violet masked man. Scene of crime officers have also attended the store.

A customer who witness the robbery attempted to pursue the masked person as they made off from the store he described the man as short,

One of the staff members was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for a cut to one of his eyes.

The suspect was described as:

– White Male

– Mid 30’s

– 5’ 7-8” tall

– Stocky Build

– Tribal tattoo on his lower arm

– He was wearing a black balaclava, black round neck t-shirt and green / dark coloured trousers
