A drug dealer from London who threw heroin out of a window to try and avoid arrest has been jailed.
The teenager was arrested last year after officers found he had travelled from London to deal drugs from a flat in Brunswick Street, Maidstone.
At around 11am on 22 August 2017, plain clothes officers visited the address and found Jaydn Charles inside with two mobile phones and a bag containing empty plastic wraps. When questioned, he was evasive and the officers arrested him in connection with the supply of drugs.
The officers then searched the premises and found a package in the garden directly below the window of the flat containing 120 wraps of heroin. This was later sent for analysis and Charles’ DNA was found on the outside of the package.
The drugs have an estimated street value of between £1,200 and £2,400.
Charles of Oppenheim Road, Lewisham was charged with possession of heroin with intent to supply.
The 18-year-old appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 15 August 2018 where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year and ten months in a Young Offenders’ Institution.
District Commander, Chief Inspector Mark Hedges said: ‘This teenager came to Maidstone to deal drugs to vulnerable members of our community and it is right that he has been jailed.
‘I am determined that these offenders are brought to justice and want the message to go out that Maidstone is not a safe place for drug dealers from outside of Kent to become established.’
