A man has been jailed for more than two-and-a-half years after posing as the neighbour of an elderly man and charging him for gardening work.

Sean Fury, 40, of St Thomas Road, Luton, pretended to be someone else and told the victim he had moved into a house with a connecting garden and needed to trim some trees to raise his back fence.
Fury informed the victim, who lived on Barton Road, that he had received a quote for £400 and asked if he would pay half, which he agreed to. He returned the following day to collect £200.
Officers in the area noticed Fury, who went by the name ‘Tim,’ acting suspiciously as he left the man’s home, and knocked on the victim’s door to check on him.
They were able to determine that Fury was using a fictitious name and did not reside in the location he suggested. He was arrested not long after.
Fury pleaded guilty to burglary at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday (6 July) and was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.
“Fury was captured due to the excellent response from the officers who saw Fury leave the scene,” said Detective Constable Jason Wheeler of Bedfordshire Police’s dedicated burglary team, Operation Maze. “I really hope that this sentence will give Fury an opportunity to reflect on his actions and get the support he needs to help him turn his life around,” Fury said, referring to the victims’ account. We will continue to work hard to bring offenders who target the homes of vulnerable people to justice.”
