The casualty on the tracks was reported to police in Ilderton Road just before 6:10 AM today (August 6)
Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service crews, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Official Statements
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the incident, stating: “Officers were called to South Bermondsey railway station at 6:09 AM today (6 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
Impact on Rail Services
The incident prompted the closure of lines between Peckham Rye and London Bridge as authorities dealt with the situation. National Rail confirmed the closures on X (formerly known as Twitter). While the lines have since reopened, trains are still experiencing cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes. Disruption is expected to continue until around 12 PM.
