A23 Closed in Both Directions Due to Serious Road Traffic Collision

The A23 in West Sussex has been closed in both directions following a serious road traffic collision between Warninglid and Bolney. Emergency services, including West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (WSFRS), South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), and Sussex Police, are currently on the scene managing the situation.

WSFRS crews from Burgess Hill, Crawley, and Horsham fire stations have been deployed to assist with the incident. National Highways Traffic Officers are also present to help manage the traffic and ensure public safety.

Diversion and Travel Advice

Due to the closure, road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbols displayed on road signs. The recommended diversion route is as follows:

  1. Exit the M23 at J11 onto the A264 and travel west to the junction with the A24.
  2. Join the A24 and travel southbound to the junction with the A283.
  3. Exit onto the A283 and travel southeast to the A27.
  4. Join the A27 eastbound and follow towards Brighton to return to the A23.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes or delaying their travel plans to avoid the affected area.

Ongoing Situation

Sussex Police are leading the investigation into the incident, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed through local traffic reports and the official channels of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and Sussex Police.
