Actor John Savident, Renowned for Portraying Fred Elliott in Coronation Street, Dies at 86

Actor John Savident, best known for his iconic role as butcher Fred Elliott in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, has passed away at the age of 86.

His agent confirmed the news in a statement, expressing sadness over the loss of the beloved actor: “We are sad to announce the death of the actor John Savident who died on Wednesday 21st February. He was a much-loved husband and father of two and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Savident, born in Guernsey, quickly became a fan favourite on Coronation Street with his portrayal of the larger-than-life character Fred Elliott. Fred was known for his distinctive bald head, booming voice, and memorable catchphrase, “I say”.
