On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, an assault on the Margate seafront is being investigated.

An altercation broke out between two groups of young people in Marine Terrace, opposite Hall By The Sea Road, around 5.10 p.m.

A 16-year-old boy was punched and knocked to the ground, where he was kicked by a group of at least five people.

Officers responded, and the boy was transported to a nearby hospital with head injuries. He has since been released.

To prevent further unrest, a 48-hour dispersal order was issued for the town’s seafront that evening, giving officers increased authority to move on anyone causing trouble in the area and arrest those who persist.

Margate Criminal Investigation Department officers are still investigating the assault and are urging witnesses to come forward.

They are especially interested in hearing from anyone who may have mobile phone footage of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police at 01843 222289 and quote reference 46/139101/22.
