Asthma sufferers in the UK, along with individuals with 23 other health conditions, are being encouraged to check if they could be owed a substantial payment from the government. Those with respiratory system-related conditions may be eligible for a payment worth up to £172 per week if their condition significantly affects their daily lives.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) offers this payment as part of the Personal Independence Payments (PIP) scheme. Eligible individuals can receive payments ranging from £26.90 to £172.75 per week for Daily Living and Mobility components.
PIP payments are issued every four weeks, with eligible recipients receiving amounts between £107.60 and £691 for each payment period.
To qualify for PIP, individuals generally need to have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years and be currently residing in the country at the time of application. Additionally, applicants must have a health condition that has caused difficulties with daily living or mobility for at least three months, with an expectation that these difficulties will continue for at least nine months.
If individuals require assistance with daily tasks such as preparing food, cooking, or moving around outside the home, they may be eligible for PIP support.
The list of 24 conditions eligible for support through PIP includes diseases of the upper respiratory tract, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumoconiosis, granulomatous lung disease, and pulmonary infiltration, among others.
It is important for individuals with these conditions to assess their eligibility for PIP and potentially claim the financial support they are entitled to. The additional financial assistance can be a valuable resource during times of economic uncertainty and a welcome boost for those who may not have been aware of their eligibility.
