Boy, 16, Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder Following Armed Disorder in Walsall

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent incident in Walsall left four people injured, West Midlands Police have confirmed.

The disturbance occurred on Reedswood Lane in Birchills around 11.50pm on Wednesday night, where emergency services responded to reports of a shooting and multiple stabbings. The West Midlands Ambulance Service treated a man who had been shot near the junction of Old Birchills and Reedswood Lane, along with three other men who sustained stab wounds.

The injuries reported ranged in severity. One man who was shot and another who sustained serious injuries were both transferred to a major trauma centre. Two additional patients were treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to hospital.

In a follow-up on Friday, police disclosed that one man had been discharged from the hospital and subsequently arrested, while three others remained hospitalized but were not in life-threatening conditions. The police also revealed that a 26-year-old man arrested on Thursday on suspicion of wounding has been released on bail.

The incident has prompted West Midlands Police to extend the use of additional stop and search powers across Walsall, effective until 10am on Saturday. The Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search individuals without needing reasonable grounds.

Police cordoned off the area around Reedswood Lane, with forensic teams examining the scene where shots were reportedly fired at a car. Visual evidence included two small silver tents and blue tarpaulin covering a car next to the Reedswood Lane sign.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated, “We are working to establish why this happened and we’d ask anyone with information to speak to us. Such violence is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated.”

The force is continuing its investigation and is actively seeking to identify other individuals involved in the incident.

Residents and witnesses are urged to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
