Well-known auctioneer and television personality Charles Hanson faces serious charges following a domestic incident at a Derbyshire residence. The incident, which occurred in June 2023 in Quarndon, a village in Amber Valley, has led to Hanson being charged with multiple offences, including assault and coercive behaviour.
The 45-year-old antique expert, frequently seen on television, has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of assault by beating, and charges related to engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.
Derbyshire Police have also charged Hanson with “assault/ill-treatment/neglect or abandonment of a child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury,” adding another grave dimension to the allegations against him.
Following his arrest, Hanson has been released on police bail. He is scheduled to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on January 10, where the case will be further examined.
The charges come as a shock to many who know Hanson from his television appearances and work in the antiques world. Known for his expertise and charismatic television presence, these allegations paint a very different picture.
As the legal process unfolds, Hanson will have the opportunity to respond to these charges in court. The case highlights the serious nature of domestic incidents and the importance of addressing allegations of assault and coercive behaviour within the legal framework.
