Chaos Engulfs Manchester Victoria Station Following Incident

Chaos erupted at Manchester Victoria station this afternoon after a major incident led to the evacuation of multiple trains and the deployment of armed officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Incident Overview

Crowds gathered in the station lobby in front of the live departures board, anxiously awaiting further instructions as delays mounted. Eyewitnesses reported that some platforms were closed, and police were actively patrolling the scene.

Police Response

Police were called to the station following concerns for the welfare of a man. A spokesperson for GMP told Metro.co.uk: “He has come down safely now and is getting the specialised support he needs.”

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) also arrived on the scene to assist and provide advice to passengers. A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Manchester Victoria railway station at around 2.46pm following reports of a person in a precarious position. The incident is ongoing, and officers are in attendance alongside colleagues from other emergency services.”

Emergency Services Presence

In addition to the police presence, a police van and a fire engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were spotted at the station entrance, which also serves as a tram stop.

Disruption and Delays

All railway lines at the station were temporarily blocked as police dealt with the incident. Although the lines have since been reopened, disruptions are expected to continue until at least 6pm.

Public Reaction

The incident caused significant concern and confusion among passengers. As the situation unfolded, many took to social media to express their frustration and seek updates on the ongoing delays.

Conclusion

The quick response from multiple emergency services ensured that the situation was handled efficiently, and the individual involved received the necessary support. Authorities are now working to restore normal operations at Manchester Victoria station.
