Essential Cleaning Steps for Air Fryer Users: Expert Tips from Hiatt Hardware

Air fryer users across the UK have been urged to follow five “must-know” steps to ensure their appliances are properly cleaned and maintained. The popularity of air fryers has surged in recent years due to their cost-effectiveness, speed, efficiency, and health benefits. As these gadgets become kitchen staples, it’s crucial to know how to keep them clean to avoid food-borne illnesses.

Experts at Hiatt Hardware have shared a step-by-step guide to help air fryer enthusiasts maintain their appliances effectively.

How to Clean an Air Fryer

1. Ensure Your Air Fryer is Cool and Switched Off

For your safety, make sure the air fryer is completely cooled down before cleaning. While the basket may feel cool, internal compartments can retain heat. Wait at least 30 minutes after use before starting the cleaning process.

2. Clean the Fryer Basket and Plates

The removable parts of the air fryer are as easy to clean as regular dishes. Submerge the baskets and cooking plates in warm, soapy water and scrub with a sponge, paying extra attention to areas with residue buildup.

3. Soak Removable Compartments in a Solution

Clean the inner workings of your air fryer, including the internal walls of the drawers, where harmful bacteria can grow. Use a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar to remove hidden grime and bacteria.

4. Wipe Down the Heating Unit

Never submerge the body of your air fryer in water as it contains the heating coil and fan. Use a slightly damp cloth with food-safe antibacterial and grease-busting solution to clean the inside, focusing on any splatters. Clean the coil gently with a damp cloth or a dish brush if grease is stubborn.

5. Dry and Reassemble

Ensure all parts are thoroughly dry before reassembling. You can air dry or towel dry each component if you plan to use the air fryer soon. Once dry, piece the air fryer back together and store it in its usual place, ready for the next use.

Expert Advice on Air Fryer Maintenance

Ryan Calvert, Product Expert at Hiatt Hardware, emphasized the importance of regular cleaning: “Although they can be fiddly to clean, air fryers can house and harbour harmful bacteria just like all other cooking equipment, so we recommend cleaning your air fryer as frequently as you would your pans and oven trays – which is typically after each use! It’s especially important to clean your air fryer after every use when cooking with raw meat as bacteria such as salmonella can remain on surfaces for up to 32 hours.”

By following these essential steps, air fryer users can ensure their appliances remain clean, safe, and efficient for all their cooking needs.
