Eyewitness Describes Horror as Suspected Acid Attack Unfolds in Clapham South

A horrifying incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in the Clapham South area of Lambeth, London, as a suspected acid attack left several victims injured, including a nine-year-old child. Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene as a man attempted to “run the woman over” with a corrosive substance while a little girl was thrown to the ground by the assailant.

The incident occurred on Lessar Avenue, SW4, at approximately 19:25hrs on Wednesday, January 31st, prompting a swift response from the Metropolitan Police.

Detective Superintendent Alexander Castle addressed the media, saying, “Officers are on the scene following this horrific incident. Three victims, a woman, and her two young children, have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Additionally, three other individuals, all adults, have also been hospitalized due to injuries sustained while attempting to assist the victims. We will provide updates on their conditions as soon as possible.”

Amid the chaos, three police officers who responded to the incident also required hospitalization, although their injuries are believed to be minor.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to determine the nature of the corrosive substance involved. Detective Superintendent Castle commented, “While tests are ongoing to determine what the substance is, at this stage, we believe it to be corrosive.”
