Israeli Air Strike on UNRWA Aid Centre in Gaza Leaves Four Dead

At least four people have died in an Israeli air attack near an aid centre that served as the main headquarters for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). The strike targeted the compound’s main gate in Gaza City, injuring multiple Palestinians. The facility played a crucial role in distributing limited humanitarian aid to Gaza residents.

Hundreds of displaced individuals, seeking refuge from the Israeli military’s ground invasion of Gaza, were sheltering inside the UNRWA facility when the attack occurred. A Palestinian woman present at the scene recounted witnessing numerous casualties, including her own injured children. She expressed anguish, questioning why innocent lives were caught in the crossfire.

This tragic incident follows a series of strikes across the city, including attacks on the Shati and Tufah camps, where displaced Palestinians had sought safety based on Israeli military instructions. The toll from these strikes reached at least 42 fatalities. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported a grim total of 101 Palestinians killed within the preceding 24 hours, with 169 wounded – the deadliest day since the Nuseirat refugee camp massacre on June 8.

Despite international condemnation and calls for a ceasefire, Israeli forces continue to target aid distribution centres and UN facilities, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
