ITV and award-winning production company World Productions have exciting news for fans of the critically acclaimed drama “Karen Pirie.” Filming has officially begun on the highly anticipated second series, which promises more suspense, intrigue, and cold-case investigations.

The Plot: A Darker Domain

Based on acclaimed author Val McDermid’s novel “A Darker Domain,” the three-part drama follows the fearless young Scottish investigator, Karen Pirie. Lauren Lyle, who portrayed Pirie in the first series, returns to reprise her role. Lyle’s performance earned her both the Best Actress Television award and the Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen at BAFTA Scotland.

In this new instalment, Pirie and her team reinvestigate the 1984 kidnapping of heiress Catriona Grant and her baby son. The stakes are high as they delve into the past to uncover long-buried secrets and bring justice to a decades-old case.

Returning Cast and New Additions

The familiar faces from the first series are back, including Chris Jenks as DC Jason ‘Mint’ Murray, Zach Wyatt as DS Phil Parhatka, Steve John Shepherd as DCS Lees, Emer Kenny as River Wilde, and Rakhee Thakrar as Bel Richmond. Together, they form a dedicated team determined to crack the case.

Joining the ensemble is Saskia Ashdown as newcomer DC Isla Stark, James Cosmo and Frances Tomelty as Catriona’s parents, oil magnate Sir Broderick Grant and his ex-wife Mary, and John Michie as Fergus Sinclair, the father of Cat’s son Adam.

Production Details

The second series has been commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, and Drama Commissioner, Huw Kennair-Jones. Huw will oversee production on behalf of the broadcaster. “Karen Pirie” will air on ITV1 and be available for streaming on ITVX. World Productions, part of ITV Studios, ensures top-notch quality for this gripping drama.
