Littlehampton Community Mourns Tragic Loss of Beloved Local, Paul Lawrence

The tight-knit community of Littlehampton is grappling with grief as tributes flood in for Paul Lawrence, a cherished local resident tragically killed in the early hours of Sunday, January 28. The incident occurred on Gladonian Road, and Paul Lawrence, aged 51, was pronounced deceased at the scene around 06.00 that day.

Paul’s family has been receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time. His daughters, Louise and Josephine, released a heartfelt statement, painting a poignant picture of their father: “Paul was a much-loved son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was a family man who devoted his life to his children and grandchildren, and he was immensely proud of everything they achieved.”

Describing him as a “gentle soul” and a true representation of what every man should be, they highlighted his kindness, generosity, and infectious laughter. They expressed the profound impact of their loss, stating, “Our Dad was our hero, our strength, our everything.”

Paul’s siblings, John and Shelley, echoed these sentiments, underscoring his kindness and ability to light up any room. They shared the pain of losing a brother who was not only loved but also an integral part of their lives.

His mother, Marie, expressed the depth of her grief: “My lovely son Paul, I’m really broken. I loved him so much, I can’t visualize this world without him.”

Paul’s step-daughter, Chloe, spoke about his unique qualities, underlining his remarkable ability to love her as his own. She described him as “a great man” and “an even greater step-dad.”

On the same day as the incident, a 16-year-old boy from Littlehampton was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released on bail with strict conditions, including a curfew, until March 14 as investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Duncan Elliott, Senior Investigating Officer of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, urged the public to refrain from speculating or posting on social media that could imperil the investigation. He appealed for information, especially any mobile, CCTV, or dashcam footage relevant to the incident.

The community is encouraged to report any information online, call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
