Major Cyber Attack Disrupts NHS Services in London Hospitals

In a significant IT incident, several major hospitals in London have been impacted by a cyber attack, leading to the cancellation and redirection of procedures. Among the affected institutions are King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ (including the Royal Brompton and the Evelina London Children’s Hospital), and primary care services.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, disrupted critical services, with blood transfusions being particularly affected.

The attack involved a malware strike on the pathology systems of Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Foundation Trusts, two of the largest hospitals in the UK. As a result, some departments were unable to connect to their main servers, causing delays and service interruptions.

NHS trusts have reported the incident as a “major impact” on patient care. While A&E departments remain open for emergency treatment, the broader NHS community is urged to use services wisely during this crisis.
