A 41-year-old man has been arrested after specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police discovered a pistol and eight rounds of ammunition during a search at a property on Buckingham Road in Edgware. The arrest followed the execution of a search warrant as part of an ongoing operation aimed at reducing gun crime in the capital.
The man, who was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition, is currently being questioned by detectives at a north-west London police station.
This operation is part of the Met’s broader strategy to protect Londoners and eradicate illegal firearms from the city’s streets. Last year, the Met reported a record low in firearms offences, with 386 illegal firearms seized across London – an average of more than one per day.
Detective Inspector Andy Durham, who is leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of tackling gun crime in London. He stated, “A top priority in the Met is to tackle gun crime and make London’s streets safer for our communities. Thanks to the diligent and dedicated work of officers, we have made an arrest and seized a dangerous weapon. Guns have no place on our streets and we will continue to do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice who pose the greatest risk to Londoners.”
The arrest and seizure come as part of the Met’s initiative, “A New Met for London,” which seeks to engage with communities, build trust, and combat crimes that most affect Londoners, including firearm offences. The Met’s continued efforts demonstrate their commitment to making London a safer place for all residents.
