Man Arrested After Southeastern Trains Blocked Due to Trespasser

A man has been arrested after causing significant disruption to Southeastern train services by trespassing on the tracks near Barnehurst station earlier today.

Police were called to the line shortly before 4pm following reports of a trespasser. The incident led to the cancellation and delay of trains between Bexleyheath and Barnehurst, affecting thousands of commuters.

The man, in his 30s, was apprehended on suspicion of trespass and theft. As the situation was addressed, power to the affected lines was temporarily switched off, with staff on-site to manage the disruption.

Train services between London Victoria and Gravesend, London Charing Cross and Dartford, and London Cannon Street and Slade Green/Gravesend/Strood experienced significant delays and cancellations due to the incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Barnehurst railway station at around 3.49pm today (7 August) following reports of a trespasser on the tracks. Officers attended and a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of trespass and theft.”

Southeastern trains confirmed that the services through Barnehurst were suspended for approximately 30 minutes while the police responded to the incident. The line has since reopened, and train services have resumed.

A spokesperson for Southeastern added: “Services through Barnehurst were suspended for around 30 minutes while the police responded to a trespasser on the railway. The line is now open and trains are running again. Anyone delayed by more than 15 minutes should claim Delay Repay compensation on our website.”

Commuters are advised to check the Southeastern website for the latest updates and information on compensation for delays.
