Man Arrested Following Robbery in Newtownabbey

Detectives investigating a robbery that occurred in the Whitewell Road area of Newtownabbey on Saturday, June 22, have made an arrest.

According to Detective Sergeant Faulkner, at approximately 8:15 p.m., police received a report that a 25-year-old man had entered a vehicle with several passengers already inside. Allegedly, a male occupant in the front of the vehicle assaulted the 25-year-old man with a knife, stealing both money and a mobile phone from him.

After the incident, the assailant exited the vehicle, leading to an altercation on the road involving other passengers. The occupants of a black Vauxhall Astra car then re-entered the vehicle and fled toward the Shore Road area. The injured man sought medical attention for two non-serious cuts to his left leg.

Subsequently, a 38-year-old man was arrested in the Mid Ulster area on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, robbery, and possession of an article with a blade or point in a public place. He remains in police custody.

Authorities continue their inquiries to establish further details about the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police at 101, quoting reference number 1470 of June 22, 2024.
