The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene at approximately 6.20pm on Tuesday to carry out arrest enquiries related to an ongoing investigation. Upon arrival, the suspect barricaded himself inside a building and allegedly began throwing objects at the officers.
In response, police established cordons around the area as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
The standoff continued for several hours before the man was arrested shortly before 3am on Wednesday (August 7). He was taken into custody on suspicion of animal cruelty, criminal damage, indecent exposure, and breach of a court order. Following his arrest, the man was detained under the Mental Health Act and transported to a hospital in south London for further assessment.
The London Fire Brigade was also called to the scene at 7.34pm on Tuesday to support the police operation. A total of 30 firefighters from Croydon, Woodside, Norbury, and nearby stations were involved in the response. The fire brigade’s involvement concluded at 3.11am on Wednesday, once the incident was resolved.

The man was arrested shortly before 3am on Wednesday, August 7, on suspicion of cruelty to animals, criminal damage, indecent exposure, and breach of a court order. He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a south London hospital.”
The London Fire Brigade also commented on their involvement, with a spokesperson saying, “Firefighters were mobilised to assist emergency service colleagues at an incident on Cherry Orchard Road in Croydon. The Brigade was called at 7.34pm on August 6, and the incident was over for firefighters at 3.11am on August 7. Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Croydon, Woodside, Norbury, and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.”
