A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Kirkby, Merseyside on Friday night. The victim, a woman in her 70s, was found unresponsive inside a home on Denver Road just before 11.30pm. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
A 78-year-old man from Kirkby has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. However, he has now been detained under the Mental Health Act, indicating a potential mental health condition.
In response to the incident, an investigation has been launched, and police have established a cordon around the area as extensive forensic examinations are being conducted.
Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cox expressed condolences to the family of the deceased during this tragic time and emphasised that specialist officers are providing support to the grieving family. She stated, “An investigation is underway as we try to establish what has happened.”
Although an arrest has been made, the authorities are continuing to conduct forensic examinations at the scene and reviewing any available CCTV footage in the vicinity. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with their ongoing inquiries.
