A 38-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his one-month-old son following an extensive police investigation.

Tony Bartlett is accused of killing baby Atticus Bartlett in Chard, Somerset, on 23 July 2022.

Police Investigation and Charges

Following a two-and-a-half-year investigation, Avon and Somerset Police announced the charge, describing the case as “deeply sad”.

Detective Superintendent Lorett Spierenburg said:

“This is a deeply sad case in which a young baby, who was only a few weeks old, has tragically lost their life.”

She added that police officers are continuing to provide specialist support to Atticus’s family during the legal proceedings.

Court Proceedings

Bartlett appeared at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 4 and was remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, February 5.
