Man Dies After Being Hit by Car in Barking Road, Newham

A tragic incident unfolded this morning in East Ham, Newham, as a man lost his life after being struck by a car that failed to stop at the scene.

Metropolitan Police received a distressing call at 5:11 am on Sunday, March 24, reporting a disturbance and a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Barking Road and Arragon Road.

Upon arrival, officers immediately initiated CPR on the victim, who was a man in his 30s. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance Service also provided urgent medical attention, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe they have identified the victim, and his next of kin have been notified about the tragic incident. A crime scene has been established, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The vehicle involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene without stopping, prompting a search for both the car and its driver by police officers. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Witnesses or individuals with relevant information or footage of the crash have been urged by the police to come forward and assist in the investigation. They can contact the authorities by dialing 101 and quoting reference CAD 1281/24 Mar.

In response to the incident, Barking Road has been temporarily closed eastbound between Boleyn Road and Kimberley Avenue. A detour has been arranged for bus routes 5, 58, 115, and 147.
