A man has been found guilty of attempted murder and assaulting an emergency worker following a violent stabbing incident in Devizes last summer.

Kubilay Bostanli, 27, of Anzio Road, Devizes, was convicted after a trial at Winchester Crown Court on January 20.

Incident Details

The attack occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 29, 2024. Bostanli chased his victim, a man in his 20s, near Sidmouth Street before physically assaulting him inside a butcher shop. The victim was then pursued to Estcourt Street, where police intervened.

During his arrest, Bostanli assaulted a police officer by pulling her hair.

The victim sustained two stab wounds to the neck, as well as facial and ear injuries.

Police Statement

Detective Constable Jo Newbery from CID described the attack as a “sustained and terrifying incident”:

“This was a sustained and terrifying attack during which the victim fought for his life. Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence against his victim, which was witnessed by a large number of people given the time of day and location of the assault.

“I’d like to thank the victim for his bravery in working with the police, and who medical staff say is lucky to still be here. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the three members of the public who helped to provide first aid to the victim.”

Sentencing

Bostanli is due to be sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on April 4, 2025.
