The victim, whose identity remains confidential, bravely reported the incident to the police shortly after it happened. In her victim impact statement, she described the profound impact the rape has had on her life:

“This incident has turned my life upside down. I will continue to have this as part of my life forever. I have had counselling for PTSD, which even now affects me. I suffer from nightmares, flashbacks, cold sweats, panic attacks, and physical reactions during sleep. Depression and anxiety have become constant companions. I feel worthless and guilty, hating myself for what happened. Trusting people and maintaining relationships has been a struggle.”

Oldham initially denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial at Manchester Crown Court in April. The court sentenced him to six years in prison, with a minimum of four years to be served. Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders register and has been issued a restraining order for 12 years, preventing any contact with the victim.
