Mother-of-Three Stabbed to Death in Ipswich Named as Tributes Pour In

Courtney Mitchell, a 26-year-old mother-of-three, has been named as the victim of a fatal stabbing that took place in Ipswich on Wednesday evening. Described by friends as “the brightest light of any room,” Courtney’s tragic death has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from the community.

Ms. Mitchell was found with serious stab wounds at around 7:10 PM on Burrell Road, Ipswich. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Courtney leaves behind three children, aged eight, four, and two.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and is currently being questioned at the Police Investigation Centre in Martlesham, near Ipswich. Police have also recovered two knives near the scene, which are undergoing forensic tests.

In the wake of Courtney’s death, a GoFundMe appeal has been launched by Brandon Black, who claims to be the father of one of her sons. The appeal, which aims to raise £7,000 for her funeral costs, has already garnered nearly £3,000. Brandon wrote, “She was a mother to 3 before a horrible human took her life. I just want her to have the best send-off for her and the family, and to support our children. I love you, Courtney Jaye Mitchell.”

Tributes have been pouring in on social media, with friends and loved ones remembering Courtney as a “precious soul” who was “too good for this world.” One friend posted on Facebook, “I hope you find your peace. You were so loved by so many. Please find it in your hearts to try and give a donation. She didn’t deserve her ending, and her family didn’t either.”

The scene of the crime, including a nearby skate park and paths along the banks of the River Orwell, was cordoned off by police as they conducted their investigation. A National Police Air Service aircraft was also deployed to circle over central Ipswich for nearly three hours on Wednesday night as part of the ongoing manhunt.

Local leaders have expressed their shock and sorrow at the tragedy. Ipswich’s newly elected Labour MP, Jack Abbott, urged anyone with information to come forward. My thoughts are with the young woman, her loved ones, and our wider Ipswich community following this appalling tragedy. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their response, and I know they are working around the clock to ensure the person responsible faces the full force of the law,” Abbott said.

Phil Smart, an Ipswich borough councillor for the area, added, “This is a truly horrific incident, and our thoughts go out to the victim and those close to her. Ipswich Borough Council is helping the police search through CCTV footage to identify the person or persons responsible.

Superintendent Andy Martin of Suffolk Police reassured residents that there would be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. He confirmed that the victim and the suspect were believed to be known to each other and urged anyone with information to contact the police.

As the investigation progresses, police have asked drivers with dash cameras and residents with CCTV or doorbell cameras in the area to review any footage between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Wednesday for anything that may be relevant.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Suffolk Police, quoting CAD 330 of 6 August 2024, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Courtney Mitchell’s death has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew her, and the community remains in mourning as they seek justice for her untimely loss.
