Mourners Pay Tribute to “Loving and Brilliant” Mum-of-Three Leila Young

In the wake of a tragic stabbing incident in Bexley, mourners have gathered to remember and pay their respects to Leila Young, a devoted mother of three. Leila, who was fatally stabbed on Penhill Road just after 4pm on Tuesday, January 16, passed away from her injuries on January 23, leaving her family and community in deep sorrow.

The tragic incident unfolded when Leila Young was stabbed, resulting in her being rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries a week later.

At the location where the devastating event occurred, a heartfelt tribute has emerged, with mourners leaving candles, floral arrangements, and handwritten notes to remember and honour Leila’s memory.

One note, brimming with sorrow, reads, “So heart-breaking. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Sleep tight and may you rest in peace.”

Another tribute pays homage to Leila’s role as a loving and brilliant mother: “Leila, you will always be remembered for the loving, brilliant mum you are. We will never forget you.”

Matt Jenkins, a close friend of Leila and her family, initiated a Just Giving page to provide support to Leila’s grieving family and assist with funeral expenses, aiming for a target of £10,000.

In a heartfelt message on the fundraising page, Matt emphasizes the unimaginable trauma that the incident has caused and will continue to inflict on Leila’s three children, highlighting the importance of rallying together to provide help and support.

The message on the Just Giving page states: “Leila wasn’t just taken away from us she was taken away from her 3 beautiful children which she loved whole-heartedly.”

It goes on to say: “The trauma this has had and will continue to have on these 3 beautiful babies is unimaginable.”

“As a friend to Leila and the family and a parent myself, we have to do all that we can to help.”

Matt concludes with a call to action, urging everyone to come together to make a difference during this painful time: “If we can help, show love and shine light and raise some money in the name of Leila, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a niece, an aunty, and a friend, then I’m sure this would make all the difference to her children and the people closest to them.

Tony Curant, aged 33, residing on Penhill Road, was arrested on January 20 in connection with the incident. He was charged with the attempted murder of Leila Young the following day. Curant appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court on January 22, where he was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 5 at the Old Bailey.
