Paper Mill Fire in Snodland: Residents Urged to Close Windows and Doors

Residents and workers in the vicinity of Mill Street, Snodland, are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to a fire at a local paper mill that is producing significant smoke.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident at approximately 1:30 PM today, deploying four fire engines to the scene. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus are currently battling the blaze using high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to control the fire, which involves large stacks of paper.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “We urge everyone in the Mill Street area to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent smoke inhalation. Our crews are working diligently to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the community.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and there have been no reports of injuries. However, the fire service emphasises the importance of precautionary measures due to the potential health risks associated with smoke exposure.

Residents are advised to remain indoors and avoid the affected area to allow emergency services to carry out their work effectively. Those with respiratory conditions should be particularly cautious and seek medical advice if they experience any discomfort or symptoms.

Local authorities are coordinating efforts to manage the situation and provide updates as necessary. Community members are encouraged to share this information, especially with those who may not have access to the internet.
