A person has tragically died following a flat fire in South East London. Emergency services were called to the scene at King James Street, SE1, around 5am on 4 September 2024.
London Fire Brigade responded with six fire engines and an aerial ladder to battle the blaze in the residential building. Despite their efforts, one individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire was brought under control, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Police and fire services are working together to establish how the fire started.
A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade said: “This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family. We will continue to support the investigation into the cause of the fire.”
Local residents are being advised to avoid the area while fire crews ensure the scene is safe and authorities carry out their inquiries.
