Police Appeal for Info following A1068 Collision

Northumbria Police have issued a renewed call for information following a serious collision in Cramlington that occurred on Monday, January 22, leaving a 26-year-old man in critical condition. The incident took place shortly before 06:55 GMT on the A1068 Fisher Lane, leading to the road’s southbound closure between the A1172 Station Road roundabout and the Foxton Mill roundabout.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving two cars, a black BMW 3 Series 335d, and a black Volkswagen Jetta, both traveling southbound. The vehicles separately collided with a fallen tree on the road, leading to life-threatening injuries for the BMW driver.

The investigation aims to establish the full circumstances of the collision, and authorities are urging any additional witnesses to come forward. The road closure is anticipated to last until at least Friday, January 26, allowing officers to conduct thorough enquiries safely.

The 26-year-old driver’s next of kin are receiving support from specially-trained officers during this challenging time. Authorities express gratitude for the public’s patience and support during the closure.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes, leaving extra time for their journeys. Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone driving on the A1068 Fisher Lane towards the Seaton Burn roundabout from midnight until 7 am on Monday. Additionally, individuals with dashcam footage from the area on that day are encouraged to share their information, no matter how small it may seem.

To assist with the investigation, people can submit information, including images and footage, through the dedicated Major Incident Public Portal online. Alternatively, contact can be made through the police website’s ‘Report’ page or by calling 101, quoting log number NP-20240122-0190.
