Police Appeal for Witnesses After Noxious Substance Attack in St Laurence Graveyard, Ramsgate

Kent Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following a disturbing incident where a man was attacked with a noxious substance in St Laurence Graveyard, leaving him hospitalized with burns.

The victim was walking along Manston Road, Ramsgate, at approximately 8:20 pm last night when the assailant threw the substance at him as he entered the St Laurence Graveyard.

While the police have refrained from confirming whether the incident is being treated as an acid attack, the severity of the victim’s injuries underscores the gravity of the situation. The man is currently receiving treatment for burns to the back of his head at a nearby hospital, with his injuries described as non-life threatening.

Despite swift action by authorities, no arrests have been made at this time. However, an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack.

District Commander for Thanet, Chief Inspector Ian Swallow, urged anyone with information to come forward: “We would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything to get in touch. Anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage in the area from Margate Road, on to Newington Road and Manston Road, please could you check for anything that may help officers with the investigation.

Acknowledging the impact such incidents have on the community, Chief Inspector Swallow assured residents of an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue.

Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/23590/24.
