Police Arrest and Charge Man in Connection with Severe Assault in Bexhill

A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Bexhill, according to police. The incident took place on London Road at approximately 11:50 pm on Friday, February 24, resulting in injuries consistent with a stabbing.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention and has since been discharged to continue his recovery at home. Following the incident, the police conducted a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of Connor Hyland-Whiting, a 24-year-old resident of West View in Hastings.

Hyland-Whiting was charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. In addition, he was also charged with seven other offenses in connection with three unrelated incidents, including attempted wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, affray, and assaulting a person occasioning actual bodily harm.

The accused was arrested on March 3 and has been remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on March 6. PC Chris Diamond, the investigating officer of the Hastings Criminal Investigations Department, reassured the local community that they are conducting a full and thorough investigation into the assault.

He added that tackling knife crime and serious violence is one of their top priorities as they understand the devastating impact it can have on victims and the wider public. The officer also thanked the local community for the support they have given to their investigation so far and urged anyone with information relating to the incident to come forward.

Members of the public can contact the police online or call 101, quoting Operation Beck, to report any relevant information. They can also report anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
