Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting on Coldharbour Lane

A 44-year-old man has been hospitalized with potentially life-changing injuries following a shooting in Brixton early this morning.

Police were called to Coldharbour Lane, SW9, at 12.22am on Wednesday, 7 August, after reports of gunfire. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS), responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where his condition was assessed as non-life-threatening but potentially life-changing.

A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of several shell casings, indicating multiple shots were fired.

The Metropolitan Police have not made any arrests at this early stage of the investigation. A crime scene has been established, and detectives from Specialist Crime (Trident) are leading the enquiry.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with video footage that could aid the investigation to come forward. Those with information are urged to contact the police by calling 101 or by posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) @MetCC, referencing CAD 125/7 Aug.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents, who are calling for increased police presence and community safety measures.

Community leader Sandra Williams commented, “This kind of violence is deeply troubling for our community. We need more support from the authorities to ensure our streets are safe for everyone.

Local businesses along Coldharbour Lane are also feeling the impact, with some expressing fears about the potential decline in customers due to safety concerns.

In response, the Metropolitan Police have assured the public that they are doing everything possible to apprehend those responsible and prevent further incidents. Additional patrols will be conducted in the area to provide reassurance to the community.
