Police are continuing their investigation into a triple shooting in Orpington that left three boys injured, stating they have “yet to identify a suspect.” The incident occurred around 10pm on August 7, when officers were called to Otlinge Road following reports of a man being shot.
Upon arrival, London Ambulance Service crews treated an 18-year-old boy at the scene before transporting him to hospital, where his condition was assessed as non-life threatening. Further investigations revealed that the shooting took place in Yalding Grove. During a search of the area, police found two 14-year-old boys with gunshot wounds. Both were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A crime scene has been established, and police inquiries into the circumstances of the shooting are ongoing.

In light of the incident, police have expressed concern over the spread of misinformation online. A spokesperson for Lewisham Police emphasized the importance of verifying facts and discouraged comments that might incite division and tension within the community. “We all have a responsibility to challenge misinformation online. Cllr Colin Smith, Leader of Bromley Council, urged the public to allow the police the necessary time and space to conduct their investigations. “The police are already well on to this case and need to be given time and space to conclude their investigations. Please continue to ignore every irresponsible comment you might read on social media about this incident in the meantime,” he said.

Detective Inspector Raymond Sekalongo from Trident assured the community that addressing violent crime remains a top priority. “Tackling violent crime in London remains our absolute focus, and reducing shootings is key to that. We understand that this incident will cause concern within the community. We want to reassure you that we are carrying out fast-time inquiries to ensure that any suspect is apprehended,” he said.
DI Sekalongo also emphasized the presence of officers in the area to support the community and address any concerns. “Please do approach them if you need to, they are there to support you,” he added.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided further details of the incident: “On Wednesday, 7 August at around 22:00hrs, police were called to Otlinge Road, BR5 following reports that a man had been shot. Police attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated an 18-year-old man before taking him to hospital. Police carried out all relevant inquiries and established that the shooting had taken place at Yalding Grove, BR5. Two further victims, both aged 14, were found with gunshot wounds whilst officers were carrying out a search of the area. The two boys were taken to hospital. The three victims have non-life-threatening/changing injuries.”
