A 13-year-old boy has been charged with a series of knife and sex offences, including attempted rape, following a three-week campaign of attacks in Leicester’s Newfoundpool area.
Leicestershire Police arrested the teenager in the early hours of Friday morning. He now faces charges of attempted rape, sexual assault of a woman, and possession of a knife blade or sharp-pointed article in a public place.
The first incident allegedly occurred on July 10, when the boy is accused of attempting oral rape on a woman while in possession of a knife on Ruby Street. On July 29, he allegedly committed affray with intent to commit a sexual offence on a woman while armed with a knife on Stephenson Drive.
Another charge involves a sexual assault at knifepoint on a woman on Rowan Street just two days after the Stephenson Drive incident. The boy was also charged with possessing a knife on Fosse Road North on Thursday.
Detective Inspector George Fraser commented on the ongoing investigation: “Our investigation into these incidents is continuing, and we would still ask anyone who can help, but who has not yet contacted police, to come forward. Any information you’re able to provide could assist us.
The boy, whose identity is protected by law due to his age, has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court today.
Residents in the Newfoundpool area have expressed their shock and concern over the incidents, emphasizing the need for community vigilance and support for the victims.
As the investigation continues, Leicestershire Police urge anyone with information to contact them, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in addressing and preventing such crimes.
