A tragic house fire in Birkenhead has claimed the life of an eight-year-old schoolboy, while three other individuals who leapt from the top floor to escape the blaze remain in hospital.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) was called to the scene on Keele Close, Beechwood Estate, in the early hours of yesterday morning. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered individuals outside the two-storey, semi-detached property who had jumped from first-floor windows to evade the fire.
Firefighters managed to rescue the young boy from inside the burning building. Despite the first aid efforts of fire crews and paramedics, he tragically died shortly afterwards. The three other individuals continue to be treated in the hospital, and their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
An investigation conducted by MFRS and Merseyside Police has determined that the fire was accidental.
Community Mourning
The community has been left devastated by the incident, with mourners placing floral tributes, balloons, and teddies at the scene in memory of the young boy.
