Search Continues for Missing TV Doctor Michael Mosley on Greek Island of Symi

The mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, has declared that the search for British TV doctor Michael Mosley will not be called off until he is found. Mosley, a 67-year-old health expert and presenter, disappeared after setting off on a walk from Saint Nikolas Beach on Symi, a Greek island located about 25 miles north of Rhodes.

  1. Extensive Search Operation:
    • The search operation involves police, firefighters using drones, and divers.
    • Mosley’s wife, Dr. Claire Bailey, along with her British friends, has been actively searching the island.
    • His four children have also arrived on Symi to assist with the search efforts.
  2. Challenging Conditions:
    • Mayor Papakaloudoukas expressed concern about the extreme heat, which reached 40°C on the day Mosley disappeared.
    • A search dog was limited to working for only an hour due to the high temperature.
    • The area where Mosley is believed to have travelled through is described as “difficult to pass” and consists mainly of rocky terrain.
  3. Race Against Time:
    • Rescuers consider the search a “race against time.”
    • CCTV footage shows Mosley entering a mountain path in the Pedi area of Symi around 14.00 on Wednesday.
    • The search radius covers a 6.5 km (four-mile) mountainous region surrounded by the sea.
  4. No Signs Yet:
    • Despite extensive efforts, there has been no sign of Mosley.
    • Divers are now searching the waters around the island.
    • If any evidence is discovered, rescuers expect to find him within an hour.
