Second Youth Charged in Connection with Fatal Fire in Dagenham

Detectives investigating a fatal fire in Dagenham have charged a second youth in connection with the incident that led to the death of 76-year-old Robert Price.

Incident Overview

Robert Price tragically died following a fire at a residential property on Oval Road North, Dagenham, on Saturday, 27 July. A post-mortem examination conducted on Monday, 29 July determined the cause of death to be inhalation of fire fumes and burns. Mr. Price’s family has been informed and is currently being supported by specialist officers. They have requested privacy during this difficult time.

Charges and Court Appearances

A 17-year-old boy, referred to as [B], was previously charged on 30 July with murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared in custody at the Old Bailey on Friday, 2 August and was remanded to appear at the same court for a pre-trial plea hearing on Friday, 18 October.

On Sunday, 4 August, a 16-year-old boy, referred to as [C], was also charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He is set to appear in custody at Barkingside Youth Court on Monday, 5 August.

Official Statements

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, the Senior Investigating Officer, reassured the community that no further individuals are being sought in connection with the fatal fire on Oval Road North. He also emphasized the importance of respecting the privacy of Mr. Price’s family.

“I would like to reassure the community that while the investigation remains ongoing, police are not seeking to identify any further people in connection with the fatal fire on Oval Road North. I also ask that the privacy of Mr Price’s family is respected.”

Appeal for Information

Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information related to the incident. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area of Oval Road North between 17:00 and 18:00 on Saturday, 27 July, and who may have seen the incident or events surrounding it. Drivers with dashcam footage from the area at the time are also urged to come forward.
